What is Safety Instrumented System (SIS)?

Safety Instrumented System (SIS) is a term widely used in the field of process safety. SIL rating is assigned to SIS based on the level of risk reduction it can provide. The higher the SIL rating, the lower the probability of a failure in the SIF. SIL ratings range from SIL 1 (lowest) to SIL 4 (highest), with each level indicating a higher level of risk reduction.
