What is lux vs lumens?

Lumens, on the other hand, measure the total amount of visible light emitted by a light source, regardless of its directionality or where it falls. Lumens indicate the light output of a bulb or a lighting device.

For instance, a standard 60-watt incandescent bulb typically produces around 800 lumens of light, while a 100-watt bulb emits approximately 1600 lumens. The higher the lumen count, the brighter the light emitted by the source.

The Relationship Between Lux and Lumens

Although lux and lumens are different measurements, they are closely related. Lux depends on both the intensity of the light source (measured in lumens) and the distance between the light source and the object being illuminated.

In simpler terms, if you have two light sources with the same lumen output, but one is closer to the surface being illuminated, it will result in a higher lux value than the light source that is farther away. This demonstrates that lux takes both intensity and distance into account.
